As redhat decided to stop supporting as of the 1st of Jan for my 7.3 system
what
are my option for patching the kernel against this root vulnerability ?

Updates for the kernel are luckily in fact available as detailed here:

https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2003-417.html

Other options include upgrading the Fedora, RHEL 3 or perhaps looking into the services provided by Progeny:

http://transition.progeny.com/

That or not allowing any untrusted local users! I would personally settle on an upgrade path soon FWIW as it's only a matter of time before there is essentially no support from Redhat for anything but RHEL or Fedora. On the plus side, after you migrate you can look forward to RHEL being supported for quite a long time.

On a side note, I'd be interested in hearing any reports positive or negative about Progeny's services. I don't know if they've released any updates or patches as yet.
