I'm not sure about partition magic. (that is, I don't know anything about
it)

Is your disk partitioned yet or is it just win 98?

If it is just win98 then run scandisk and defrag before trying to partition.
That will put all your win98 stuff near the front of the disk rather than
having it all over the disk. That way your partition program will have a
nice clean section at the back to work with.

You only neeed to create one partition for the entire linux section. When
you install linux it should ask if you want to dual boot (run both linux and
windows). Tell it yes. Then the install program should allow you to create
several partitions if you want. Those are up to you, depending on what you
want to do. It is good to have seperate partitions for boot and swap.
Other partitions are good for security or seperating users, if you have more
than one. The install program should have info to help you decide.

You can also check the web and local libraries and bookstore for more info,
or just ask here.

How are you planning on using linux? Home or office? If at home - personal
or work? Will you be connecting to the internet? How many users? Running
any type of service such as web site, email, ftp, files, etc?
