HI,
have a look at your /etc/crontab and see when cron.daily runs. updatedb is a 
link to slocate, which runs as slocate.cron in /etc/cron.daily. That should 
be running around 4am. However if your system clock is off or if your system 
is powered off at that time, it may end up running at a different time 
(possibly due to anacron). Also, by default it should be set to nice of +19, 
the lowest priority.
