Make the connections manually first to make sure that everything is working OK before you ask your script to do it's thing. This one bit it a while back too!

Subject: Help with SSH
I am trying to set up authentication with SSH so I can let a script run
a command through ssh on a remote server.
I have followed all of the documentation for creating the private and
public keys and have copied the public key to the remote server to the
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys file. I set up the identity with no password.
I set permisisons and ownership of the key file as well but the
authentication fails and I am forced to enter a password on the command
line.
I have no idea why this isn't working and need some help.
The two servers I am trying to connect are both new and have IP
addresses only. They don't have domain names assigned to them. I assumed
that doesn't matter but I have no idea what the problem is at this
point.
Any help?
Thanks.
