When you start the installation, you will be given the option of
installing only the client part or the server too. IIRC, we did not
upgrade to Red hat 9 because Oracle 9i breaks on that. This article
http://linux.oreillynet.com/lpt/a/4141 has some tips on installing it on
RH9 but even the author cautions against using it on production
machines.
