Ok, have you edit the file /etc/xinetd.d/wu-ftpd and change 

	disable = no

	for

	disable = yes

and after /etc/init.d/xinetd restart ?

can it help you?

Yes. vsftpd is not allowing me to start it, even as root. 

If I ftp to the box and open an anonymous connection, then the vsftpd is
listed in the 'top' output. But I can't manually start it, or log in as a
normal user (or even root!)

I'm open to suggestions...

Llorens, I don't think this will solve Andrew's problem, since he seems to
have said that he can't start the daemon.
