Hi Rune,
I will take a shot at this. Maybe someone can correct or expand on it.

The rpmnew (config files get rpmsave) is actually the old one. 
The old link pointed to a binary data file in /usr/share/zoneinfo/, which was 
saved as  /etc/localtime.rpmnew then the rpm package overwrote it.

There is nothing to worry about, and the "warning" should probably be a "info" 
for non-configurable files.
