Re: 'Device busy' error when trying to Rebuild RPM Database...

Hello,

Thanks again to those who've replied.

Below are the last 30 or so lines of output from 'rpm -vv --rebuilddb'.
There was much, much more; it's definitely doing *something*. You can
see the error message about half-way down. Observation: the
modification dates on the 'Basenames', 'Packages', 'Dirnames', etc.
files in /var/lib/rpm do not change. The '__db.001', etc. files
reappear and have the current mod date.

rpm -q is still flakey. Many packages are reported as 'not installed'.
 Some return double listings.  Examples:

farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q rpm
rpm-4.2-1
farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q glibc
glibc-2.3.2-11.9
glibc-2.3.2-11.9
farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q libgcc
libgcc-3.2.2-5
farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q ncurses
ncurses-5.3-4
ncurses-5.3-4
farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q kernel
package kernel is not installed
farmer ~ >> sudo rpm -q sudo
package sudo is not installed

Any idea how I can get a working rpm database? Thanks in advance...
