How to test a 200GB drive

Earlier today, I was asking a question which IDE chips support 200GB drive with no answer. Here is another unrelated question: given a combination of IDE chip + BIOS + kernel + Fdisk , how can I test a 200GB to make sure it really works (no data corruptions) and use its full capacities. Whatever tools are chosen, the tester must make sure it is reading/write the real blocks, not rolling back to block 0. Someone mentioned using badblocks, then said it's not enough. What would you do?

Thanks.
