Hi, I would like to set up a DNS server, BIND 9 that comes with Red Hat Linux 9. The questions should be pretty basic. 1st bunch of questions: ============================= It says in the documentation that the "@" in front of SOA in the main zone file represents the domain name of my server (called mybox.my-domain.com). How do I specify the domain name? /bin/domainname will print the NIS domain name, isn't it? If /bin/hostname prints "mybox.my-domain.com" hence "my-domain.com" is the domain name of this machine called mybox? 2nd bunch of questions: ============================= Do the clients have just one DNS entry (nameserver ip-address-of-mybox) in /etc/resolv.conf and the main zone file has an NS resource records that points to the ISP's DNS server? So all requests go to mybox and will be forwarded to the ISP's DNS server if mybox cannot answer (e.g. ping www.redhat.com)?
