This won't help you now, but have a look at the rsnapshot project on
sourceforge.  Using links, you can practically make snapshots every
couple of hours without burning a lot of disk or tape.  I make a
snapshot every 2 hours on my home server and then rotate those through
daily, weekly, and monthly snapshots.

BTW, if you've written to the file system since you accidentally deleted
the files, the odds are pretty good that your data will be
unrecoverable.
