Debian started in 1993. http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/project-history/ch-intro.en.html And Red Hat has it all over with corporate acceptance, enterprise service, etc... but Debian still kick's _everyone's_ butt, including Red Hat's, in terms of massively stable, trivially upgradable Linux distributions.
