I hope parted will do the job well. Any success story?
Other people have commented on Mondo and g4u. As for parted, I have created, moved, or resized at least 100 partitions over the last couple of years using parted and have yet to have something fail or lose data. Backup your data by all means (it would be foolish not to backup), but hopefully you will not need that backup.
