Max UID of Redhat 7.1

What is the max UID on a RedHat 7.1 system.  On the internet, I found places 
where it said with kernel 2.4 and greater, RH has moved to 32-bit UIDs.  I 
am using kernel 2.4.2-2.  When I add a user through linuxconf, I get a error 
messages saying the UID needs to be between 0 and 65535.
