Hi Abhijit: The -u param is for use by the root user to access other user's crontab files (the manpage say "privilege user"). You should be able to do "crontab -e" for any user (including root) to edit their own crontab file and "crontab -e -u xxx" for root to edit user xxx's crontab file.
