hardware RAID vs software RAID

I recently purchased a 1-U server featuring an Intel S845WD1 server
motherboard, and it includes a built-in Promise FastTrak RAID
controller and drivers.

In the past I've installed a lot of RHL software RAID but never hardware
RAID; I remember reading years ago that Linux software RAID was well
developed to the point where it worked as well as hardware RAID.

But now that I've go the controller, built on to the motherboard, I
think it's time I revisit the issue.

Does anyone here have any experience with this motherboard or other
Promise RAID solutions vs software RAID?

Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

Tia.
