Maybe your disk is acting up and something is happening to the Xfont server xfs? I had a whacky issue with xfs. I also think that xfs slows X down on startup...(a lot). Has anyone set up X to use a set of paths instead of a unix socket for the X Fonts? This is something I wouldn't mind setting my machines up to do. It would be a performance enhancer. Can't imagine why running a Socket Server for fonts would be very useful (aka seperated from the X server?). Anyone else have any comments or ideas on the matter?
