Get off your soapbox. I offered an alternative suggestion, and even warned him of the qmail mailing list.
I disagreed vehemently with the suggestion. I am very competent as a user and a fair shake as a sysadmin... and qmail, qmail-users, and several individual qmail users I know are all just plain nasty, hostile, and difficult to deal with. That's fine if it's your cup of tea and you have the knowledge to handle it. However, it is NOT, repeat NOT, what I would recommend to someone who is just starting out and can't even modify sendmail to accept remote SMTP connections.
Funny, qmail users are nasty, hostile, and difficult, yet you reply to my suggestion to SOMEONE else the way you did. I'm happy that you're so very good at it. FWIW, I'm an ex-Sendmail user of 4+ years who got tired of all the security problems (if I want those types of problems, I'd just switch to Exchange...at least it's easier to configure than Sendmail), and the difficulties of configuring it for multiple virtual domains. Fine, don't recommend it, I never asked you too. But you're going to recommend Sendmail with a GUI to someone who, "can't even modify sendmail to accept remote SMTP connections."? Great, just what we need, another open relay on the net.
Alternatives are a great thing... I'm currently learning postfix myself, and I've run a qmail-based system for over a year. It's just my personal opinion, after having been forced to endure that year and having to deal with qmail's many related idiosyncracies and idiocies, that your alternative... well, sucks.
Forced? Hey, if you can't follow LWQ, and have a basic qmail system up and running with NO problems in under 2, maybe 3 hours, then you really have no business trying to setup ANY MTA.
However, I am not going to use this list anymore for this war. I made my suggestion to the OP, and I stand behind it. And that, is all I have to say about that.
