kernel panic

I upgraded a working system to 2.6

I then brought down the system to level 1 to upgrade the NVIDIA drivers
with the new kernel.
The NVIDIA drivers installed along with the extra GLX drivers.  The
uninstall hung.

Now I cannot boot the system.
