By default, SMTP servers on RHEL systems only listen to localhost, not the network interface. Chances are you need to put "dnl " in front of the line "DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl" in your /etc/mail/sendmail.mc ... run m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/mail/sendmail.cf and restart sendmail
