Problem with samba and a netmask of 255.255.255.128

I have run the familiar tests for smb on the server and the clients.
All the tests on the server side work. Connect from clients on the same
subnet or other subnets fail.

All these tests work:
testparm
smbclient -L yourserver -N
ps -ef | grep nmbd
service smb status
service nmb status

*netstat -nlp | grep smb*
