As I understand the aim was for a limited scope change making the code
nicer to read.

But going a bit further, did you consider making the new function just return
a ready-to-use "5 drives" string, and also getting rid of the explicit "%d" in
front of it everywhere?

The "sorp" name is puzzling at first, but I don't know maybe that's a
convention somewhere.
