You did read the VERY FIRST line of that web page? You know the one - the one that says "this page is obsolete"?
Did you find that page AFTER you messed up your array, or before? If you can follow https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Linux_Raid#When_Things_Go_Wrogn it'll give is a bit more information.
