Given this:

        int src_cnt = disks - 2;
...
        BUG_ON(disks > 255 || ...)

what about just making something like:

#define MAX_DISKS 255
...
        int src_cnt = disks - 2;
...
        BUG_ON(disks > MAX_DISKS || ...)
...
                 unsigned char coefs[MAX_DISKS];

?
