Hello,
I am using Adaptec 1430SA. I chose it because it was the only:
* reasonably priced (no hw raid),
* >2 port controller,
* pci-e faster than x1.

>From bad news, I cannot access its "configuration utility" during
startup, just as Ryan mentioned. I'm using Asus P5K-E (P35 chipset),
and 1430SA lives in non-gfx pci-e slot. I don't cry though, I never
wanted to use its fakeraid for anything.

I'm running 2.6.23-0.214.rc8.git2.fc8 and currently only a WD10EADS is
hooked up to the 1430SA. I'm using sata_mv driver, and it looks more
or less like this:

sata_mv 0000:04:00.0: version 1.0
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:04:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
sata_mv 0000:04:00.0: Applying 60X1C0 workarounds to unknown rev
sata_mv 0000:04:00.0: Gen-IIE 32 slots 4 ports ? mode IRQ via INTx
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:04:00.0 to 64

Initially I was worried about
sata_mv 0000:04:00.0: Applying 60X1C0 workarounds to unknown rev
sata_mv 0000:04:00.0: Gen-IIE 32 slots 4 ports ? mode IRQ via INTx
because support for 1430SA was added just around 2.6.23, so it seems
my kernel doesn't really recognise it correctly (should be 7-something
chip). I was worried about some data corruption with sata_mv (that
I've just read about) but both issues turned out to be no problem. It
works perfectly and I've not encountered any corruption across 1TB of
md5'ed files. I suggest using newer kernel though.

So to sum up, I found it good value for money with no real drawbacks.

Cheers,
Mike
