Dead RAID5!

OK, I had a two-disk raid5 (to allow expansion) on a Scientific Linux
system I couldn't
persuade to boot on a very modern kernel. In a nutshell, after some disk
failures I have two "working" disks, neither of which will let me start
the RAID5 device. What's the best way to try to recover what I can? (One
disk fell off RAID and I think the other had some bad sectors.) I have
backups of course, but it's a day's work for a number of people.

MANY thanks

John
