Uhm, yes, exactly.

I'm a 3ware user myself. ;-) I was saying that a strict software-raid
solution was missing this.


Pardon?

If you run software RAID and use their CLI you have hot-swap.
If you run their BIOS controlled RAID and use their 3DM you get similar functions.


About the only difference I see is that 3DM has a pretty interface GUI in your web browser.

If that is important one could make a similar thing using tools like Python or Zope pretty easily..
