Re: front-panel headphones not working with Intel PCH and Realtek ALC892

The card is there. The rear panel connectors work, and both mics are visible.

aplay -l lists analog, digital, and two HDMI playback devices.
aplay -L lists a bunch of PCMs, including a bunch of surround modes and a
two-channel mode called front. Maybe that one should go to either the
front-panel or back-panel jacks, but I don't know how to find out how that works.

arecord -l lists two capture devices, ALC892 Analog and ALC892 Alt Analog.
Are these the front and back mics?
arecord -L strangely lists a default and a second input that is labelled Front
speakers. How can I find out where this comes from?

I'm currently playing music with configuration Analog Stereo Output
(unplugged) and the only port I see is Line Out (unplugged)
