There are some things that use the session bus, however, and I expect these to work only in the first session of the user, or if the system is configured so that "session bus" actually means "user bus" (I don't know how common this is). "git grep SESSION" found these uses of the session bus: - the D-Bus interface of PulseAudio, or specifically the "server discovery" part of it (not used much, disabled by default) - auto-detection of Jack (the other sound server) - the device reservation protocol (used to cooperate with Jack) - the Rygel integration Regarding your note about supporting non-systemd systems: we also have module-console-kit, which serves the same purpose as module-systemd-login. -- Tanu
