Honestly this is the first Vala code I have ever seen, but to me it seems that default values are already used in libpulse.vapi: ... [CCode (cname="pa_channel_map_init_extend")] public unowned ChannelMap? init_extend(uint8 channels, ChannelMapDef def = ChannelMapDef.DEFAULT); ... Since the proposed patch wraps the "simple" API i think it would be reasonable to keep it as simple as a language allows, thus using default values in Vala seems to be a good choice.
