pavucontrol just shows 'dummy output'.

I'm unable to get PulseAudio working on this machine at all, every time
I look in 'pavucontrol' its showing 'dummy output' and no sound card
available for configuration. How do I force the recognition of the
sound card/chip please? Alsa works very well for my MPD but is unable
to play at showing any videos, consequently I'm wanting to get PA
working for that, and if I can get it all working then I'm quite
willing to move over to PA for all my sound programmes.

Some basic details of the machine;-
