From
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/User/Modules#module-jackdbus-detect

I should be able to set auto connect and number of channels. I am testing
this on UbuntuStudio 13.04 Alpha. Pulseaudio 2.1.

In /etc/pulse/default.pa:

load-module module-jackdbus-detect connect=no

works as expected, but:

load-module module-jackdbus-detect channels=2

Gives:

Jan 31 15:43:02 studio1304 pulseaudio[6338]: [pulseaudio]
module-jackdbus-detect.c: Failed to parse module arguments
Jan 31 15:43:02 studio1304 pulseaudio[6338]: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed
to load module "module-jackdbus-detect" (argument: "channels=2"):
initialization failed.

Is my usage wrong? I have too old a version of pulseaudio?

Hmm, pulseaudio --dump-modules -v
gives:
---------------------------8<------------------
Name: module-jackdbus-detect
Version: 2.1
Description: Adds JACK sink/source ports when JACK is started
Author: David Henningsson
Usage: connect=<connect ports?>
Load Once: yes
Path: /usr/lib/pulse-2.1/modules/module-jackdbus-detect
-----------------------8<------------------------

Is there a later version of this module with channels?

In any case, I would think a two channel default would make more sense,
but then I am thinking from a (semi)pro use. The main use I have seen for
running pulseaudio through Jack has been to mix skype/youtube audio for
broadcasting purposes like streaming or podcast interviews. Most 7.1 uses
would connect to the internal audio card or direct to alsa without Jack
except for those using a firewire card. I have not seen any firewire cards
set up for 7.1 most seem to be aimed at multi-track use. (again, in my
limited experience)

As an aside CPU use goes up with pulse connected to jack at low latency.
More channels increases cpu use. Even with the current default of
connecting to all jack devices, the ability to choose less channels would
be helpful.
