True, but depending on your distro, overlinking problems may dictate
that "version 0.9.21" in some capacity is used when testing a self
compiled version (due to the the libpulsecommon.so.0.9.21 name... for me
it only affects the built in commands (e.g. paplay etc.) but other
distros maybe don't care as much about overlinking....

You can of course just do:
 echo "0.9.21" >.tarball-version
before building too.
