Just for clarification: By "disable the alsa mixer" I mean adding the
"control=" parameter to module-alsa-sink.  This causes the module to not
touch the alsa mixer, and revert to software mixing.  Sadly, in my
experience, the alsa mixing rarely works flawlessly.
