This should fix your problem. Hmm, you said using the switch-only control triggered other volume handling bugs in PA. Is that true? Looking at the code I am pretty sure I handle this case correctly and the ALSA sink should still use the hw mute switch but fall back to software voolume control. And I cannot spot any bug in that code. Could you please elaborate!
