limits on maximum device volume?

Exactly, I myself recently made my laptop play at 130% because I found
AC3 sound downmixed to stereo a lot quieter than standard stereo and
having all mixers at 100% didn't help, the sound was just a bit too low
- and it didn't clip after amplifying, either.
