OK, I've not totally sussed this, but the general idea is: 1. Open pavucontrol 2. Set h/w volume to 100% 3. Set "Event Sounds" to 100% 4. paplay /usr/share/sounds/question.wav 5. Observe the 100% stream playing. 6. Repeat step 4/5 a couple times just to be sure :) 7. canberra-gtk-play -i menu-click 8. Observe the 100% event sound showing up in the list. 9. Repeat step 7/8 a couple times just to be sure :) 10. Now set "Event Sounds" to 50%. 11. Repeat step 7/8 12. Observe the 50% event sound. All good. 13. Repeat step 4/5 14. Observe the 50% steam.... hmmm, not good. 15. Observe the 50% h/w volume. Hmmm.
