You need to convert it to WAV (or anything else) afterwards, which should be fairly simple using `sox': sox -c 2 -r 44100 -s -2 -t raw recording.pcm \ -t wav recording.wav (You can, of course, play with the recording format and specify something different for both `pacat' and `sox'.
