Skipping audio on optical output

I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and pulseaudio is now the
default. I have finally managed to get the optical output to work, but
have encountered a problem.

When I use amarok as the 'super user' (ie. the user who installed
ubuntu) everything works as expected.
When I use amarok as any other user, I get (occasional) skipping. The
skipping seems to occur around every 70-80 seconds.
I have followed the instructions in 'The Perfect setup', but nothing
eliminates the skipping.
I have create a new user to ensure it;s not some leftover configuration,
but am getting the same problem.
All users are member of the pulseaudio-xxx groups.

I'd appreciate any suggestions I can try to eliminate this.

Thanks

Leo
