pidgin seems to get it's connection hung up

It's likely related to gstreamer but I'm not sure why.

I've had particular issue with pidgin myself. I've found it behaves 
particularly badly when pulse dies from underneath it... it seems to 
spin and gobble memory under these circumstances (or at least I've 
observed this happening - although in defence I've not seen it for a while).
