It looks a bit difficult to me. Don't get me wrong I only want to understand what the reason is for all that. Is that a hardware specific solution, because I only edit "default-sample-channels = 2" to 6 in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and also turne up the volume of front, surround, Center, LFE in the gnome Alsa mixer. After that surround sound is working like it should. I hear stereo sound on all 6 channels without problems. I also have no problems with AC3 sound if I watch a movie with totem. In my case I don't need the alsa-plugin. My hardware: product: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller It would be nice if you could enlighten me. Maybe I don't get the use case right. Regards Achim
