Mike, If you check www.phpclasses.org, and search for "paging" there's a paging class built by pierre-yves lemaire that might do just what you're looking for. It's pretty highly rated by the users of the site. I also know this question has been asked in the past so a stroll through the archives may yield additional leads on other sites such as freshmeat and phpbuilder.
