Use PHP and MS Office or learn .NET?

Hi all.

I know PHP can interact with MS Office documents, reading and writing them, but is it more sensible to learn C#.NET and use that instead? What can .NET do that PHP can't with office docs? Any input would be welcome. Thanks.
