You need to explain what you mean by concurrent access. To me, this means only allowing a specific number of users to access the system at any one time. As one logs out, another can then log in. If you're talking about access to the data itself, then MySQL supports Transactions (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/ansi-diff-transactions.html), so you should be able to use that technique to update all the relevant tables in a single hit. If possible, you should try and design your application and database so that it looks after itself. Perhaps use a temporary table that holds updates that need to be applied to the data, and before anything can be read from the database, the table has to be empty?
