Can anyone tell me how to import addresses from one's gmail or yahoo email id?

Just like in facebook.com , when we want to invite our friends we just
click on gmail/yahoo/hotmail/aol logo, then it imports email addresses
from the contacts.

I have used MagicWand/Gmail Lite for this purpose. But it don't worked.

Can someone suggest any other alternative to import addresses from one's 
email id?
