Well, the mailing rules state: | Do not top post. Place your answer underneath anyone you wish to quote | and remove any previous comment that is not relevant to your post. IMO that makes a lot of sense, especially when (parts of) previous comments are snipped when not relevant to the new post, so that excessive scrolling is not necessary. Top posting makes it hard to obtain the flow of the discussion for follow-up posters, and for those readers who had not read previous posts. @Peter West: you may consider marking your signatures as such (see RFC 3676, section 4.3[1], so that somebody replying to your posts doesn't have to remove them manually (a decent mail client will do that automatically), because they are usually not relevant to the new post.
