Not knowing the Mac I'm fishing ;)
How did you INSTALL PHP? We normally do this via a 'package manager' of some sort, where you find the 'PHPxx' and select it. Uninstalling is simply a matter of 'deslecting' it. If you loaded this from a 'command line' script then I would think that perhaps this is a book that needs a health warning :(
