$counter = count($array);
for($i = 0; $i < $counter; $i++){
  echo $i . "\n";
}

So the expression count() in the for()-loop is only
parsed once and not every loop.

You could also use a for loop if you wanted to count;

for($i = 0; $i < count($array); $i++){
  echo $i . "\n";
}
