Modifying Arbitrarily Deep Arrays with SPL

["chrisd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" <chrisd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>]

Does anyone know how to use SPL to modify the keys and values of an  
arbitrarily deep array?

Specifically, I want to utf8_encode() the keys and values of   
arbitrarily deep array before passing it to json_encode(). This would  
seem to be the perfect job for SPL.
