Install question

I have just started with a clean install on a Windows XP Pro system, 
Apache 2.24 and PHP 5.2.3

Apache Monitor reports Apache/2.24(Win32)PHP/5.2.3.

I can access html files just fine but I can't even run a test program

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

Nothing displays.

Where do I look to see whats wrong?
